The Press-Side® Advantage

If you’re currently using off-line batch processing to metalize injection molded parts, you’re going to appreciate the problems Press-Side solves. For example, the Press-Side may eliminate the need for climate controlled clean rooms and other types of expensive auxiliary equipment, prevent inefficiencies in handling product, and alleviate the risk of expensive quality failures at the end of the production line.

The Press-Side, with its small footprint and fast cycle time, is designed to metalize parts as they come out of molding machines on the production floor. Operators place parts onto a fixture disc (which also acts as a mask), place the disc in the chamber, and close the chamber door. The remainder of the process is automatic.

By placing the Press-Side within a manufacturing cell, you dramatically reduce part contamination, eliminate interim storage, reduce or eliminate the need for a base coat, and allow immediate decoration or assembly of the final product. Plus, if the molding process is producing defective parts, coating them may make the flaw obvious—allowing immediate corrective action on the line.

The Press-Side even contributes to environmental and employee well being. The ergonomically designed equipment minimizes muscle group use and ensures two-handed operation. And since the Press-Side uses a sputtering process to apply the coating, it doesn’t pose the environmental problems associated with painting VOCs (volatile organic compounds). In addition, employees can take pride in products they work on from start to finish.
